Job description:
As part of the Fiber program, Proximus is deploying FTTH (Fiber to the Home) networks. Services on the fiber access network are offered through Passive Optical Network (PON) technology, via Optical Line Termination (OLT) and Optical Network Termination (ONT). Today, GPON and XGS-PON standards coexist, allowing optical speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second.
This network is continuously evolving, and Proximus is looking for someone in the engineering team whose main mission is to technically select equipment, develop services, validate them in the lab and on a small scale in the field, and ensure the improvement of the production network quality. The selected engineer will be able to develop and maintain a helicopter view of all projects and products using OLT and ONT equipment, manage and contribute to innovative technical projects and carry out Lab validation.
Your responsibilities will be:
Contribute to the Lab development & validation.
(1) Validate new telecom equipment & software. Engineer new configuration in existing & new equipment.
(2) Define and prioritize the tests to be carried out. Analyze results. Summarize the tests progress & write technical test reports &.
(3) Discover the issues, find their root-causes, and get fixes from the vendors. Communicate orally and in written about the issues.
A curious engineer who likes efficient testing.
Manage the technical aspects of projects: pre-project analyses, understanding and estimating the work to be done, technical specifications, development of new services, delegation, and monitoring of certain tasks to lab teams, problem resolution, and communication of progress.
A pragmatic individual who successfully completes projects.
Contribute to maintaining a helicopter view of all used equipment and all existing and upcoming products. Understand and improve Quality of Service (QoS). Ensure integration with backbone networks and CPE (Customer Premises Equipment).
An architect who thinks abstractly.
Analyze complex production issues that cannot be resolved by operational teams.
An analytical person who identifies the source of problems in collaboration with other experts.
Communicate in written form - documents, presentations, and emails - and orally - meetings, informal contacts, and ad-hoc.
An effective communicator.
Profile
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in engineering
5 years of experience in developing (access) network solutions, working for a network service operator or a major equipment supplier.
Key Skills: advanced knowledge of fixed access networks and Ethernet/IP networks.
Attitudes/Behaviors:
High sense of responsibility. Committed.
Ability to structure and prioritize the work. Analytical.
Good communication skills.
Team-player & autonomous in carrying his work.
Languages: English is a must. French & Dutch are welcome.
